Han Dae-Sung

Abstract
Objective : This study aimed to investigate the factors affecting the level of life satisfaction among older adults in a cognitively normal group living in the community.

Methods : Data were collected from 102 older adults between January and August 2020 through a direct survey at local welfare centers and senior citizen centers. Cognitive ability was measured using the CoSAS. Data were collected through lifestyle surveys of with 27 questions in seven areas and satisfaction surveys with seven items. The correlations between general characteristics, lifestyle, and satisfaction were confirmed, and the factors affecting satisfaction were investigated using simple regression analysis.

Results : In the lifestyle analysis of 102 older adults, ¡°eating three meals a day¡± was the highest (4.08) and ¡°enjoying hobby activities¡± was the next highest (3.92). Lifestyle factor level was highest in family relationships, diet, and peer relationships, in that order. Overall satisfaction (3.75) was the highest, and economic life (3.44) was the lowest. Satisfaction was found to be correlated with age, educational background, home ownership, allowance, and cohabitation. As lifestyle factors affecting satisfaction, it was found that diet, religious activities, school relations, and residential environment were significant.

Conclusion : The general characteristics of community-dwelling older adults were correlated with satisfaction and lifestyle factors influenced satisfaction. To increase satisfaction in old age, economic stability and physical health are important factors, and opportunities to actively participate in various leisure activities should be provided.
